West Rutland Vermont was formed from land taken from the incorporated Town of Rutland in 1886. Since then, the City of Rutland was formed, creating three separate incorporated entities in the vicinity: West Rutland, City of Rutland, and Rutland Town. West Rutland is very much its own town with its own identity, and a focus on community building and vitalization. Recent years have seen industrial developments, a new Recreation Area, and a marsh conservation project aimed at protecting rare bird species and other wildlife dwelling there. West Rutland Vermont real estate has the best of Vermont skiing just down the road. Popular ski resorts Killington resort and Pico Ski Resort are just minutes away. Okemo Mountain Resort, Stratton Mountain Ski Resort, Magic Mountain Ski Resort, Bromley Mountain Ski Resort, and Suicide Six Ski Area are all under an hour’s drive away.
