Middletown Springs gets the first half of its name from the nature of its inception, carved as it was out of the four corners of the neighboring towns of Tinmouth, Wells, Poultney and Ira. The latter half of the name was inspired by the mineral springs that surge from the banks of the Poultney River, which runs through the town.
